UCSF Dermatology Clinic – 515 Spruce St

This one-story building is leased by UCSF as a dermatology clinic, and as requirement of the lease, needed to be upgraded to UCSF Seismic Performance Level IV under the University of California Seismic Safety Policy.  The building has a wood framed roof with interior plywood shear walls and concrete moment frames at the exterior.  The retrofit was a performance-based design per ASCE 41-17.

The retrofit included wrapping the exterior concrete columns with FRP so that they were flexurally governed, strengthening interior plywood shear walls, adding out-of-plane anchorage of the perimeter concrete walls and spandrels to the timber roof, and adding collectors across the building.
